Terms of Service

Updated 28 October 2026

These terms set out the rights and responsibilities of each side when you use WriterOne. Our service is an evidence tool, not a ghost-writing service, and that distinction runs through the whole document.

1. Acceptance

By registering for or paying for the service you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. If you use it on behalf of a school, institution or company, you confirm that you are authorised to accept these terms for that party.

2. What the service is, and is not

WriterOne is a research sourcing and evidence verification tool: it searches for literature, fetches the originals, produces structured evidence cards, verifies numbers sentence by sentence, computes evidence gaps, and delivers a data appendix, a comparison matrix and chapter drafts.

WriterOne is not a thesis writing service and does not guarantee that your thesis will pass review or defence. Chapter drafts are starting material that you must judge, revise and take responsibility for. When a number cannot be traced, the system says so; please report that honestly to your supervisor.

Source coverage is maintained per country and per language, and the amount retrievable differs between countries. Results depend on the public web and on our search provider, and we do not guarantee that any particular source will be found.

3. Your account

You need to provide an email address that you can actually receive mail on, and you are responsible for keeping your password safe. Accounts are for your own use only.

If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately and we will help you reset it.

4. Acceptable use

Do not use the service to bulk scrape, mirror or redistribute any source's originals or PDFs, including on a paid plan. Archived originals are for use inside your own projects.

Do not upload material you have no right to process, do not use the service for anything unlawful, and do not send requests that are destructive or automated-abusive.

5. Intellectual property

Your research designs, uploaded files, evidence cards and chapter drafts remain yours.

Archived originals, PDFs and journal content remain the property of their respective rights holders. We retrieve and keep those copies on your instruction; that does not grant you any licence beyond what applicable law and fair use already allow.

The service's code, interface and branding belong to us.

6. Payment and refunds

Prices are those shown on the order page. Paid plans are handled by our payment provider acting as merchant of record, who invoice you and handle sales tax or VAT.

If you request a refund within 14 days of purchase and have not yet used the thesis pack, you are entitled to a full refund. Once the pack has been used for a search or an extraction, it is no longer refundable. Model calls already consumed are not returned.

If a service fault prevents a pack from being completed, you may request equivalent compensation within 30 days of the fault.

7. Availability and changes

We will keep improving the service, and we may change features, model providers or prices. A price change does not affect a period you have already paid for.

We do not promise that the service will never be interrupted; we will try to give notice for planned maintenance and urgent faults.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect loss arising from use of the service. Our total liability is limited to the total amount you paid us for the service in the preceding 12 months.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for deliberate misconduct or fraud.

9. Changes and governing law

We will notify you before changing these terms, and continued use after that notice means you accept the change.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China, excluding its conflict-of-law rules, and disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hong Kong.
